OMOP short course in 2023- Please await details! In response to the need of the dental fraternity, the School of Dentistry & Oral Health, Fiji National University launches its first online Short Course on for the benefit of the dentists in Fiji and the Region. Short courses that provide micro-qualifications will be mostly targeted for past graduates to upgrade and upskill on various topics of interest.  It is possible to gain knowledge and skills in the management of certain conditions while acquiring a micro-qualification. One advantage of such a course will be to pursue open learning without visiting provider university premises and staying in participant’s locality and carrying out routine clinical work. Link to Survey: https://forms.gle/qtGHQ8rB5QiidiX56 Active from 05-11-21 to 19-11-21 FNU hopes to develop a Short Course on Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology in 2022 which will help past graduates in updating knowledge and skills. This course carrying 10 Credit points (100 learning hours) will be delivered on blended mode in four blocks (each of one week duration) with gaps in between. The Certificate of Attainment awarded will be regarded as a microqualification for future studies. It is also possible to obtain regional accreditation therefore this course goes beyond a CPD activity. This refresher course is highly recommended for dentists (3yrs after BDS) either in hospital or private sector in the smaller Pacific island countries. Some course contents will be delivered by overseas specialists. Introduction to FPOSn Blog site

        Web site vs Blog site:   A web site is somewhat static and from the PIC region it is not possible to purchase a domain (www) easily. Blog sites (Blogspot.com and Wordpress.com) are freely available and can be used to have static or dynamic ‘webpages’. Wordpress has limitations in the free version. Blogger (Blogspot.com) has more features in the free version. A ‘Blogs site’ can have multiple ‘Blog Pages’ which are listed in the ‘homepage’. Blog Pages are created by the Admin of the site. Each Page can have posts which can be created by permitted viewers. All viewers can also add comments to the posts in pages. Blog Site >> Pages >> Posts >> Comments. This Blog page titled Fiji and Pacific small islands Oral Surgeons Network (FPOSn) aims to facilitate professional development of the Oral Surgeons and junior surgeons in Pacific Small Island Countries (PICs) graduated with Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Oral Surgery qualifications from Fiji National University since 2014.    From 2014 to 2019, these two programmes have produced twenty graduates with PGD-OS and two with MOS across nine Pacific Island countries (PICs). Majority of these trainees were selected by the Ministry of Health in their respective countries. There is evidence that these graduates have started to practice and helped to improve the standard of oral surgical care services in their respective home countries. In addition, some PICs have annual visitations by Oral Maxillofacial surgeons who provide services in country and are ably assisted by the graduates.
